Colin has 13 years of experience in Venture Capital / PE across all deal types (rescues, startups, Dev Cap, MBO’s IBOs) with a focus on early stage technology businesses.  He set up Hotspur Capital Partners in November 2007 which is an investor group of high net worth individual who have been/are successful entrepreneurs themselves building and then exiting businesses. As his salary is capped and invests in each deal his only motivation is to build equity value in the portfolio rather than build fees at the expense of the investors or portfolio companies.

Colin through Hotspur has made investment in and sits on the boards of antixlabs.com, caspianlearning.com, cogenta.com, femeda.com, medalytix.com and routetrader.com. Hotspur is now one of the most active Angel Groups in the UK having invested between £400k-£1.4m in each deal and is targeting to invest in 2-3 businesses per annum which have global potential.

Prior to Hotspur, he set up the Rising Stars Growth Fund in which he completed 37 early stage investments, and trebled the size of the Fund.  He joined Rising Stars after starting his venture capital career at 3i. Colin has studied at Leeds and then Warwick Business Schools to obtain a BA then MBA. His challenge for 2010 is to get back to competing in Triathlons and avoid all programs that feature celebrities talking about themselves, Mr Cowell and Ant & Dec.
